Weeknotes 2026-W38 - a short work week
• • 1025 words • 6m to read
It's been a decent week. I had Friday off from work which has been much needed and I am glad I'll soon have more days off work - one per week now.
The website
I've done a bit of more work on the website, including:
- Adding back /portal
- Adding support for multi-line ul and ol
- Adding ytembed, which makes music of the day work
- De-duplicated a portion of the code
- Added the ability to filter /blog by language and post kind
That said, I've also broken a few things as well so hey ho. It'll get there.
I started a bit on trying to make the code a bit cleaner and hope to (with time) publish the code for it so others can maybe use it if they want.
In terms of blog posts, I've written :-
- Never Break the Xs - about Mark Manson's and Jerry Seinfeld's advice to do something every day. Yet to decide how to implement.
- The ChatGPTisation of my writing - about the effect of AI use on my writing and writing style.
- On the Dangers of AI - about the (potential) dangers of AI in the future, and the fact that I don't know how to respond to worries people have.
- Język polski - my first post in Polish, very short and was very difficult.
- Bloggen auf Deutsch, und anderen Sprachen - likewise, a first post in German.
- Fifty more - Lou Plummer's blog ideas
- Minimalisticzny - about the aspect in which I am minimalist
- Favorittmann - about my favourite man
The posts in Polish (2), German (1) and Norwegian (1) were as a demonstration that I can now filter by language, and are a part of a new series, using Lou Plummer's fifty ideas, where I will write every entry in a foreign language. For me that will be one of (in decreasing order of ability): German, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Italian. Perhaps even Georgian will feature at some point... (Unlikely to be at a good enough level before I conclude the series).
I also wrote the Moonlight entry for the Fiction Carnival. Granted I don't like what I wrote and I won't e-mail James about it this time...
Next time I'll properly partake.
The website at least is coming along, though there's still a lot of work to do on it.
I'm considering also adding a Artwork of the Week section similar to Music of the Day.
Other things I've done
Uhh... worked?
I also went to the mandolin on Tuesday as is usual and I may end up playing octave mandola there very soon. I think if I can get an octave mandola it'll be very good and I can probably enjoy playing it...
I went to the gym a couple times too - Wednesday, Thursday, ...
I went for a bike ride on Monday night and Friday morning, both for about 40 mins or so. The ride on Friday I had to cycle against the wind, in the traffic, for probably a good mile, which was difficult! It was as a result of taking the longer route back, and I think I will take that route back more regularly going forward.
On Friday night we went round my grandma's for food and a chat which was pleasant. On Saturday I popped by the cafe and forgot my card there; luckily I noticed when I was in Sainsbury's buying some yoghurts and rushed back. I also got a text from a friend, whose friend works at the cafe, telling me I'd forgot my card... except I didn't read it until I'd already gone home. Luckily all worked out.
Screentime
The screentime stats for the week are:
- Mon 14th Sep: 3h 41m
- Tue 15th Sep: 2h 51m
- Wed 16th Sep: 2h 07m
- Thu 17th Sep: 8h 10m
- Fri 18th Sep: 2h 31m
- Sat 19th Sep: 3h 40m
- Sun 20th Sep: ...
That Thursday figure is worrying and I suppose it's because I was working from home. The rest of the figures are perhaps higher than I'd like but fine I guess.
Gym and Exercise and Diet
I've been using OpenNutriTracker this week, so I have figures to put to this.
| Day | Calories Goal | Calories eaten | Carbs | Fat | Protein |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-14 | 2198 | 1668 | 124 | 66 | 122 |
| 2026-09-15 | 2200 | 2029 | 145 | 95 | 141 |
| 2026-09-16 | 2484 | 2505 | 261 | 45 | 93 |
| 2026-09-17 | 1871 | 1760 | 105 | 74 | 158 |
| 2026-09-18 | 2378 | 1940 | 194 | 76 | 107 |
| 2026-09-19 | 2015 | 2150 | 212 | 95 | 95 |
Now, these Calorie goals have a 825 kcal deficit factored in. So really I should hit them or slightly exceed them. However I also think the TDEE the app gives is slightly on the high side, so fine with following an 800 kcal deficit and assuming it's closer to a 600 kcal deficit which is more healthy.
Anyways, I'm broadly on track though of course in one week I haven't noticed much of a difference.
I also do notice that my diet is very low on carbs, and much higher on fats and about expected for protein. I don't think it's a bad thing that I have a fatty diet, because the fats are from tofu, chocolate maybe, olive oil, etc. So all fairly healthy unsaturated fats. I don't have a great deal of saturated fat so not a great deal to worry about, I think.
I started the week measuring 80.6kg and finished it at 78.6; that is of course two kilogrammes but I think it's mostly water. It's hard to say but I would imagine around 0.5kg of that is actual weight loss. We'll see in the coming weeks.
Next week
We're going to the opera house on Monday to watch Don Giovanni. It's been a while since I've been so looking forward to it.
I'm going to stop by the Hobgoblin shop at lunch too, because I want to take a look at their octave mandola they have and potentially buy it later in the week.
On Tuesday there is mandolin rehearsals, and also mandolin on Saturday. I think I've also got Friday off, as well the Monday the week after, making a four day weekend.
Nothing else booked in so far next week which isn't a bad thing.
