Why the Fascists Don't Eat Vegetables

This is an absolutely incredible video by The Leftist Cooks, very well researched and very long that I would recommend. It deals with the cultural importance of meat and milk on the cultural right. Honestly one thing I find very interesting is the clustering of ideas: why are the many disparate ideas of the right and of the left clustered together such that if a person has one belief, they'll likely have another? But I haven't researched into it much.
Interesting points from the video:
- Meat is seen as manly, and vegetables (and especially soy!) as womanly (and thus bad, at least for men though arguably for women as well, as there is a slight hint of thinking that woman is the inferior sex), and this comes from meat moreso being accessible by men than by women, as historically men were the most privileged and meat was a privileged item. Of course, nowadays meat has been made cheap, and so meat is seen as a common man's thing. Tofu is seen as unmanly/womanly (soyboy etc) as its seen in the west as a nonmeat, or antimeat. However of course in other cultures (like in Asia where tofu originates) this isn't the case.
- An ethical point was made that in fact, it is arguably more manly not to eat meat, given that unnecessarily killing is not exactly a noble or manly thing to do.
- The very excessive demonstrations made by, e.g. Liver King, Raw Egg Nationalist, Jordan/Mikhaila Peterson etc. are essentially a form of dogwhistle: a pro-meat (industry-funded) point couched in irony. However, this refers onto the wider right-wing agenda as a means of extremising the viewer.
- Milk of course has much complexity (given the US governments policy on milk, government cheese etc) but the link to whiteness (in the colour of the milk and of the classes of people who would drink it - the white and western who are the most lactose-tolerant) and to the idea of western superiority was well made, and the association with the idea of force and domination being seen as virtuous. I suppose some of that comes from the Biblical ideas of dominion, too.
- The idea of sustainable agriculture being achieved by essentially a climate accelerationist strategy whereby the western culture is fortified, and climate accelerated (hence the right-wing support both for oil and animal agriculture, both of which accelerate the climate whilst allowing benefits to accrue to the west) which will cause the non-west to end up fleeing the climate crisis and lose their place and existence, whilst the west will be well strengthened and aggressive to fight against them. Ties in with the above point of force and domination. It's essentially a racialist and supremacist point of view, and I hadn't thought of it in this way before the video.
- The prevalence of a sort of atavism (e.g. the natural order as expressed by tradwives, and dominant men etc)
One thing I find interesting about the rightwing is how very given they are to corporate interests. Tobacco, Oil, Meat, Milk, ...
I suppose they are on the side of supporting the corporate and rallying against the government - I heard somewhere an analysis that we essentially have the three forces of corporations/government/populace in a perpetual struggle against each other, and I suppose the right wing favours corporate and the left government? Of course, neither are good if they get too strong. The good lies in their being balanced against each other.
I would really like to understand for instance though things like how the COVID and antivaxx thing happened. Weirdly, the vaccine is a corporate item, so surely getting the vaccine supports corporations? But it's only certain corporations they like. They don't like the healthcare or pharmaceutical corporations, but do like meat or oil.
Google AI (ugh, but I guess I have just used it!) says its probably because Pharma is seen as institutional instead of blue collar, and more importantly that Pharma needs support from the government (patents etc) whereas Oil and Meat need protection against the government (to stop environmental regulation etc) which means of course they'll support the right who want to weaken the government. Makes sense.
Anyways, here's the video: #[raw]#
