Weeknote 2026-W34 - first week of normality, and nothing happened!
• • 769 words • 4m to read
It's been the first week of normality, and I got back to work to find that I couldn't even get through my e-mails before the meetings that were set up as soon as I return told me that I had other priorities I had to focus on, things that needed to be done this week, etc etc. Great. An audit that's ongoing, and which is due at the end of the month, also is providing a good bit of fun given that the auditor is not really responding to us. Oh, ~it~je t'aime, le vie de bureau~~it~.
I've been tracking my food this week, and in the last few weeks, so I have some numbers on that at least. I'm aiming to lose a bit of weight, so that can be something I can update. Screentime, too, of course.
Screentime
Okay, so, it's got bad again. The total in the week was 1d 11h, with a daily average of 5h. The main problem child as usual is Brave (23h), then Sheets (2h 46m) which was me setting up the calorie tracking and adding the numbers. VLC has 1h 57m which is music. Somehow the Clock has 1h 42m where I must have forgot an alarm. Whatsapp only 46m, and Proton Mail 34m.
Split out by days:
- Mon 17th: 5h 40m
- Tue 18th: 2h 14m
- Wed 19th: 6h 13m
- Thu 20th: 5h 01m
- Fri 21st: 5h 58m
- Sat 22nd: 4h 25m
- Sun 23rd: 5h 32m
Cor blimey.
Diet
I'm tracking mainly protein and fibre alongside calories, as I don't really care my split of fat vs. carbs. That said, I've eaten lots of avo this week so my fat levels are high high.
- Mon 17th: 2280 kcal (131g protein, 57g fibre, 3 kcal deficit, score: 7.50)
- Tue 18th: 2090 kcal (112g protein, 55g fibre, 444 kcal deficit, score: 8.54)
- Wed 19th: 2300 kcal (138g protein, 63g fibre, 142 kcal deficit, score: 8.23)
- Thu 20th: 1980 kcal (96g protein, 37g fibre, 553 kcal deficit, score: 8.15)
- Fri 21st: 2210 kcal (126g protein, 35g fibre, 148 kcal deficit, score: 7.59)
- Sat 22nd: 2265 kcal (106g protein, 42g fibre, 180 kcal deficit, score: 7.17)
- Sun 23rd: 2400 kcal (129g protein, 29g fibre, 321 kcal surplus, score: 5.10)
I've adjusted calorie needs based on exercise levels using a multiplier, and aimed for a 500 kcal deficit, however fell short on many days. I also need to do more exercise at that gives me much more leeway. On the Sunday I had a very bad day and ended up with a surplus.
Overall, across the week, I've had a deficit of 1,190 kcal or roughly 1/3 of a pound. It brings my days until I'm at the desired weight from 128 to 126, which isn't great progress but I guess it's just a first week, and I might become more disciplined with time. If I get more disciplined consistently I think I could be at the desired weight in four or five months, which would be good!
The score ranks my calorie, protein and fibre intakes against what is desired, and provides up to four points for protein, up to four for kcal, and up to two for fibre. Then there is a deduction for "Bad" food, based on how many kcal were bad food. That's junk food and sweets and the like. That can deduct up to three points (if 100% of kcal were bad).
As noted, doing more exercise really helps. It is the difference of a few hundred calories.
What else?
I've been a bad boy and done very little mandolin practice. We've got a few weeks of reprieve from sessions now, but I do need to actually do some practice eh!
I got Claude to tidy up the music of the day site so it doesn't show things in the future (with a bit of javascript and a data-date tag I didn't know existed - or I guess all tags on elements are arbitrary? not sure really) and groups it all under
I finished up the last week's weeknote for the holiday and the St Albans concert which took a long time due to all the photos!
I've been reading (very slowly) The Pursuit of Love. I don't know whether I enjoy it yet. The writing style isn't for me, however I do appreciate the sort of "true to life"-ness of the book, the awkward, fumbliness of it all.
And that's all that comes to mind!
