Weeknote 2026-W30

At work, it's been quite busy this week. That has given me a sort of naseline stress, I suppose. On the other hand, my sleep has somewhat recovered since I've been back in my own bed this week, and going forward, so that's a good thing! I was getting a bit sick of poor sleep.

On the Monday and the Friday, I saw my friend online. We've been playing a new game, Ravenswatch. It's very difficult, but it's good fun nonetheless. I notice how much better at games he is than me, a good two third of the ravensfeathers (revives) used are by me...

On the Tuesday, we had mandolin at my second group. There's few of us at the moment (only five this week: three mandolins and two guitarists) and for the bandstand concert in August, there's probably only going to be seven or eight of us I think, including the accordionist who's just joining us for the week before (where I'm on holiday!) and the concert. Well, we'll see how it goes. I need to practise the new pieces ahead of our concert, too. Only got two weeks really to do so.

On the Thursday, I was planning to socialise in the evening, but nothing materialised, and besides I was very tired, and didn't want to. I bought a pizza and some Alpro soya greek yoghurts from Sainsbury's on the way back home and greatly enjoyed them.

On the Friday a colleague promised me he would get something done that day. I don't think he did, unless it was very late at night... Oh well. I actually don't care that it wasn't done that day, except that it's a bit silly he'd leave it to the last day, and another department needed it that day...

On Saturday, we had the mandolin meetup, where we practised some pieces, and I can definitely feel myself getting more confident with them, though practice is still sorely needed, especially for some of them. Afterwards, we went out for drinks at a pub called The George (my namesake!) on Great Queen Street by Holborn station. Good fun. I was drinking on an empty stomach, and after the four ciders I had, was rather yoparatta, as the Japanese say. My vision was spinning a bit on the train ride home. The evening was spent eating food and recovering a bit.

On Sunday, I had a nice relaxing one, going to a cafe with my mum to read a bit (currently The Idiot, Dostoyevsky. Some 140 pages in and greatly enjoying it) and visited my grandma for a chat. Then made dinner (rice and curry), wrote this weeknote, did some organising, my washing, etc.

The only gym session was on Tuesday lunchtime. On Wednesday lunch I didn't have my gym clothes with, and on Thursday I had lunch with my colleague instead. We tried a place on Petticoat Lane market which was quite good I have to say! I usually go to the falafel place there, but it's good to try other places too.

It's fig season at the moment and I couldn't be happier for the fact. They are so delicious it's not real.
