Train Dreams

I watched the movie Train Dreams today on the back of a recommendation by a colleague. The reason why he recommended it me was because I was wearing a new buffalo plaid (in yellow and black) woollen jacket which reminds of a lumberjack outfit. Also, because we were discussing movies I might enjoy, since I am watching more of them now.
I really did quite enjoy it. It wasn't outstanding, but quite enjoyable in the fact of it being understated, but also fairly realistic in nature. My eyes were beginning to fill at many points during the movie.
It tells the tale of a lumberjack who goes through his life and witnesses a great many miserable things: the persecution of his Chinese colleague and friend, the loss of another close friend and colleague, and most prominently the loss of his wife and daughter. It tells of his regrets, and how his regrets follow him throughout his life.
It's a rather depressing story in all, but rather understated in it all, and very well produced, though I do dislike the use of strings in instrumentals. I still greatly did enjoy it.
One thing I perhaps did not like so much, though of course it was a necessary part of the story and storytelling, was the reuse of material repeatedly throughout the movie.
I appreciated the introduction of Claire also. Again, I appreciated the fact that the development with her was rather underformed, and the author did not feel the need to mutate the relation into a coupling up, or some such.
